The Timmins Museum: NEC is pleased to present  Benjamin Chee Chee: Life and Legacy, an exhibition of the artist’s works, from October 2^nd to 30^th, 2019. Curated by Temiskaming Art Gallery curator Felicity Buckell, the exhibition features iconic works from this nationally renowned artist,

Originally from Temagami First Nation, Benjamin Chee Chee (March 26, 1944 – March 14, 1977) first captivated Canada’s contemporary Indigenous art scene with his Nicholas Art Gallery exhibition in Ottawa, Ontario, in 1973. During his four years as a full time professional visual artist in Montreal and Ottawa, Benjamin Chee Chee’s work was prolific and disparate, ranging from his iconic ‘Friends’ and ‘Benji birds’ to his less generally familiar abstracts.

Felicity Buckell, curator of the exhibition will be at the Timmins Museum on Wednesday, October 9^th, from 5pm to 7pm; she will deliver a brief talk about the artist and her journey to create this exhibition.
